16 years

It's been sixteen years ago today since Doug passed away. I thought that this blog would give me a chance to post a little tribute to his memory. There's hardly a day that goes by that I don't think about him. Some funny memory the kids want to hear again, a certain food, old Maryland friends...we miss him still.

I've been thinking about Doug today also! I don't really know what to say - I'm almost speechless! You Dellas are a great family and I'm definitely a better person for having known all of you!

It always makes me smile when I am just running through the rat race of life and trip over someone or something which reminds me of Doug. I almost consider it a gift! This day and his birthdays are usually reserved for the bulk of scanning my memories for thoughts of him. Thanks for the pictures...they made me happy! I want more.

I think I will take this opportunity to share my two favorite "Doug" memories. I was in sixth grade. Even though we went to different Elementary Schools his bus would pass my Patrol stop everyday. We would smile and wave to each other. It was a simple thing, but the other girls who I patrolled with would swoon..."Who is he?" "How do you know him?" It made me feel special. I can see that smile now...He was a cutie!

My second memory...lol...I cannot figure why it is one of my favorites! I guess because it is just so Doug. We were in Primary and I was wearing sandals. Doug is sitting next to me. He starts staring at my feet and then looks up at me and loud enough for everyone to hear declares: "You have Grimus Toes!" I was so embarrassed. It took me until college to be able to show my feet in any kind of sandal or flip flop. Funny thing...I now love my feet...Maybe that day they were just looking fat and purple...lol. I so miss him!

One more and then I promise I will stop!

A few mornings a week throughout Jr High. Doug and I drove from early morning swim practice in the back of Joe's van listening to him blare Christian Rock music and splitting an orange juice from the vending machine at the pool. Many times Joe would start "yelling" the lyrics of the songs with such "Spiritual Feeling" (I would guess he thought he was singing) and we would just sit in the back and laugh!

Good times!

Nancy, hey I found your blog through Margo's blog. It was good to see pictures of your kids. They have gotten so big and Lauren is such a cute girl. It sounds like your family is doing well. I just thought I would say Hi! Blogging is such a small world.
